Water
- Re-cutting of Stems
- Re-cut stems every 2 to 3 days
helps to remove blockage at the end of the stems caused by air, bacteria and debris, thus maximize the uptake of water.
- Re-cut stems 1/2 to 1 inch under water
ensures that the stems will initially take up water rather than air. A water droplet will form on the cut ends and prevent air from entering the stems when flowers are transferred from the bucket to the floral container.
- Cutting flower stems diagonally
create more surfaces for the uptake of water. It also allows some space in between the bottom of the floral container and the stems when the stems are placed inside the container.
- Use of Warm Water
- Water temperature from 100ºF to 110ºF
facilitates the uptake into stems better than cold water. Warm water also contains less air, thus create less chance of air blockage to the stems. First set warm water in the bucket to place in flowers for cutting or storage, and let the water naturally cool down to room termperature.
